These include expenses incurred for product recalls, media relations costs following subject injury, medical monitoring of uninjured subjects exposed to the product, and liabilities arising from a breach of research subject’s private information.
We provide automatic extended reporting periods in line with local market expectations and regulatory requirements. Our trial product also includes our Extended Liability feature, providing certainty of coverage for future claims arising from a circumstance notified to us or correlated to a claim made against you during the policy period.
In a series of scenarios we explain the significant losses life sciences companies can face when conducting clinical trials – and the coverage needed to keep them protected amid ever-changing risks.
Clinical trials insurance covers legal liability for injury to a research subject and, where required, No-Fault Compensation for claims made during the policy period or within the standard extended reporting periods (additional periods can be added if requested). The policy can be annual or cover the whole trial duration, where permitted.
Clinical trials insurance is designed for organisations that conduct or sponsor clinical trials. The sponsor is the entity or person that initiates, organises and supports the clinical trial and takes responsibility for the overall conduct of the trial, including liability for injuries that may be suffered by patients. Examples of organisations that should have clinical trials insurance include pharmaceutical companies (solely or jointly with other research institutions such as universities and hospitals); private research organisations under a grant from government or from public donations; and publicly funded research organisations, such as universities and teaching hospitals.
